ABOUT ELK ILLUSTRATIONS
Hand-Drawn Botanical Art by Emma
I'm Emma, the illustrator behind Elk Illustrations. I create intricate British botanical art with pattern work woven into every piece.
Why hand-drawn, not AI: Every illustration starts as a pencil sketch on paper. I then digitally redraw it line by line using a Wacom pen and painting software (Rebelle). This process takes 2-6 hours per illustration. Nothing is traced, filtered, or AI generated. The visible texture, organic wobbles, and imperfect lines are proof that a human hand made this.
Why botanical illustration: I see patterns everywhere: in tree bark, in leaf veins, in the way petals overlap. I draw those patterns into my botanical work, which sits between scientific accuracy and decorative art.
My specialisation is British wildflowers: the plants that mark the seasons in hedgerows and woodland.
Why email-only service: I'm autistic and work best through written communication. Email-only service means clear documentation, no miscommunication, and everything in writing for easy reference. It also means you can message me anytime and receive thoughtful responses within 24-48 hours, rather than being pressured into real-time meetings.
Why this matters for brands: Wellness and eco brands need consistent visual content that aligns with their values. You need botanical art that's provably human-made, sustainable in its creation process, and delivered reliably every month without the hassle of managing freelancers or the ethical concerns of using AI. That's what this subscription provides.
-
You receive a set number of bespoke hand-drawn botanical illustrations, delivered as high-resolution digital files suitable for web and print.
Files are sent via email, Google Drive or WeTransfer on the same date each month (20th or 25th depending on tier).
Each delivery includes a clear licensing agreement documenting commercial usage rights.
-
Not exclusive. The illustrations are created specifically for your brand based on your monthly questionnaire, but they are not exclusive. This keeps the subscription affordable.
If you require exclusive rights (meaning I cannot reuse or sell the illustrations to anyone else), this is available as a separate add-on at an additional fee. Contact me to discuss exclusive licensing options.
However, I do not create identical illustrations for competing brands. Your illustrations are tailored to your aesthetic and needs, making them unique to your brand in practice.

Seedling: £300/month (2 illustrations)
Ancient Oak: £700/month (5 illustrations) — Limited availability
All prices include commercial usage rights, revisions, and email support.
Payment is processed monthly via Stripe. First payment is taken immediately upon signup, then on the same date each subsequent month.
-
Yes. There is no minimum commitment. You can cancel or pause your subscription at any time with 30 days' written notice via email.
Cancellation or pause takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle.
For example: If you cancel on March 10th, you'll receive your March illustrations on the 20th or 25th as scheduled, and your final payment will be April 1st for April's illustrations. Your subscription ends after April delivery.
Pausing works the same way: notify me via email, and I'll pause billing and deliveries for the months you specify.

Style:
Hand-drawn botanical line art with intricate decorative pattern work. Available in full colour or black and white depending on your brand aesthetic. All illustrations have visible paper texture and organic line quality.
Subjects:
British wildflowers and countryside plants are the specialisation - snowdrops, bluebells, wild garlic, primroses, hawthorn, elderflower, foxgloves, poppies, seasonal hedgerow botanicals.
Other botanical subjects (herbs, garden flowers, medicinal plants, trees) available on request.
Seasonal themed collections are tailored to your brand - spring bulbs, summer meadow flowers, autumn berries, winter evergreens.
-
Yes. All subscription tiers include commercial usage rights for the illustrations you receive.
This means you can use them for:
Product packaging and labels
Social media posts and marketing
Website graphics and banners
Email marketing campaigns
Print materials (flyers, brochures, posters)
Brand identity and style guides
You cannot:
Resell the illustrations as standalone digital products (e.g. selling them on Etsy as clipart)
Sub-license the illustrations to other companies
Claim you created the illustrations
A clear licensing agreement is provided with every monthly delivery documenting exactly what you can and cannot do with the artwork.
-
First delivery: Within 14 days of completing your brand questionnaire and setting up payment.
All subsequent deliveries: On the same date each month (20th for Seedling, 25th for Ancient Oak).
If you sign up mid-month, your first delivery may arrive sooner to get you onto the regular monthly schedule.
-
Yes, with advance notice.
Seedling tier: General seasonal themes provided. Specific requests considered but not guaranteed.
Ancient Oak tier: Same monthly questionnaire as Blossom, plus you can request specific botanical subjects quarterly (4 times per year) for upcoming campaigns or launches.
Requests must align with my style (British botanicals, pattern-rich detail, hand-drawn aesthetic). I do not create photorealistic illustrations, minimalist flat graphics, or subjects far outside botanical/nature themes.
-
Monthly subscription:
Predictable cost and delivery every month
Commercial usage rights included
Consistent style and quality
No need to re-brief or renegotiate each time
Ideal for brands needing ongoing content
One-off illustration:
Single commission, higher upfront cost (typically £150-300 per illustration)
One-time project, not recurring
Requires separate briefing and contract for each new illustration
Ideal for brands needing a single piece for a specific campaign
The subscription is more cost-effective if you need 2+ illustrations per month regularly. One-off commissions make sense for occasional or one-time projects.
I do not currently offer one-off commissions, only monthly subscriptions. This keeps my workflow sustainable and ensures I can serve existing clients well.
-
Revisions are included in every tier:
Seedling: 2 rounds of minor revisions per illustration
Ancient Oak: 3 rounds of minor revisions
Minor revisions include:
Adjusting individual elements (e.g., leaf shape, petal position), changing line weight, adding or removing small details, adjusting composition.
Major revisions (completely redrawing an illustration from scratch, changing the plant subject entirely) are outside the scope of included revisions and may incur an additional fee.
If you're not satisfied:
Email me within 7 days of delivery with specific feedback. I'll make revisions based on your brief. If the illustration fundamentally doesn't match your original request due to miscommunication, I'll redraw it at no extra cost.
If it's still not right:
This is extremely rare, but if after revisions you're still not satisfied, we can discuss options including crediting that illustration toward next month's delivery or, in exceptional cases, adjusting your subscription tier or pausing for the month.
The goal is always to deliver botanical art you're genuinely happy to use. Clear communication via the monthly questionnaire and sketch approval process prevents most issues before final delivery.
